BOLUS

Method

What gets in, what stays out, and how it is checked.

A watch is only worth its rule. Bolus publishes its rule, so that readers can judge what they read and report an error.

Scope

Bolus covers health venture capital, and since 13 August 2026 a single object: a funding round in a company. Pre-seed, seed, Series A, B, C and later. Every letter is worth the same as long as the company is not listed, and a round whose stage is not announced remains publishable, the article then saying that the stage is undisclosed. The field covers healthtech, medtech, biotech, diagnostics and health software, in Europe and the United States first, elsewhere when the technology or the potential justify it.

A fund raise by a management company was admitted until 12 August 2026. It no longer is. A fund named as an investor in a round obviously stays in scope: it is the fund as the object of the operation that goes out.

Out of scope, and never the subject of an article: mergers, acquisitions and asset purchases, private equity and LBOs, IPOs and any operation on a listed company, non dilutive financing and agency grants, licensing deals and partnerships, appointments and bankruptcies. A clinical or regulatory signal is never a subject in itself, it serves to explain the investors' bet.

A day without a round is a day without an article. The scope is not widened to fill the page.

What makes an operation important

Not the amount. What the technology does that nothing did before, the size of the problem it attacks, and what the operation says about the state of the market. The test is simple: take the amount out of the article, is there still a reason to read it?

The 24 hour window

An operation is covered within twenty four hours of its announcement. Beyond that it joins the daily log but does not become an article. This constraint produces fewer articles, notably on Fridays and in August. It is a choice.

Sources and their hierarchy

The issuer's press release is authoritative for the investors, the announced amounts and the use of funds. An official document, such as an SEC filing, a clinical trial registry or an agency decision, is used to verify or complete a figure, and prevails over the press release in case of contradiction. In that case the contradiction is flagged in the article. A press article never validates anything on its own, it corroborates or it flags.

Every medical, epidemiological or regulatory claim is sourced or attributed to whoever makes it. Unsourced general popularisation is cut.

The daily log

One article a day at most. Everything else the collection spots is published in the log, under one of three states that say where the work stands: article when a piece exists, verified when the press release was opened and the funds double checked, spotted when the collection saw it and nobody has processed it yet.

What is not health venture capital does not appear in the log: an acquisition, an IPO, a public grant, a licensing deal. These operations stay in the registry, they are simply not the subject of Bolus.

Every signal has its own page, reached by clicking the company name. It gives the investors when known, the source, and what is still missing before publishing. A spotted signal is never removed: a collection you cannot reread is a collection you cannot correct.

Verified, or only spotted

The collection reads wire headlines. Verification reads press releases and official documents. They are not the same thing, and the site does not display them the same way.

A signal page marked Spotted shows fields taken from an automatic reading of the source headline. They are given because a reader has the right to know what the watch saw, but they have not yet been checked against the press release, and they should not be quoted as verified. An article, on the other hand, never goes out without every figure traced back to its source.

What Bolus misses, measured

Once a week, a list of rounds produced elsewhere than by Bolus is checked against the registry. Every absence is a collection gap, and the share found is the recall rate. It is published here, good or not.

The collection, and what it misses

Every day the collection reads the PR Newswire release archive, some twenty specialised press feeds and funding aggregators, a subscription address for deal newsletters, the SEC's daily index of Form D filings, and LinkedIn as a last resort.

Since 17 August 2026 a single test decides what gets in: an amount or a funding verb, within the window. Before that, five keyword filters ran in sequence, and each could silently drop an operation. They dropped one: Boulevard Bio, 65 M$ from Deerfield Management, announced on 12 August 2026, passed under the collection five times unseen, because its release said "Launches with 65 Million" and no filter knew that phrasing. The incident is the reason for the redesign, and it is on record.

The recall rate is measured against a list of operations established elsewhere. On 17 August 2026 it was 93%, twenty six operations found out of twenty eight. The two missing ones are named: one was distributed by Business Wire, a release wire that refuses automated reading, the other came from LinkedIn, which did not yet feed the registry. This figure is redone every week and published even when it falls.

Corrections

Every published error is corrected, dated, and flagged in the article. Never a silent deletion.

Conflicts of interest

Any relationship with a company mentioned is declared in the article, including a job application, an internship, a personal connection or a holding of shares.

Report an error

A wrong figure, a fund missing from a round, a date that does not add up: write to contact.bolus@gmail.com .

One address, nothing else.

One letter a week, on Fridays: the week's funding rounds, the funds named, the amounts double checked. The list is never sold, one click to unsubscribe. The letter is written in French.

Email confirmation before any subscription. The list is never sold. What Bolus knows about you is written on the privacy page (in French).
